ABOUT “ONE TRIBE”
Meet Jack. Jack is a master of manipulation who has spent years only looking out for himself. From the start of “One Tribe,” the listener is imprisoned within Jack’s mind, engulfed in his craving for power and attention; plunged into the darkest corners of his hunger for control over everyone around him.
Our story begins with Jack at the pinnacle of his powers. He always had a natural talent for gaslighting, but the advent of the smart phone and the ensuing evolution of social media allowed him to sink to new lows. Pride comes before the fall. Along his journey, Jack connects with a new love, Emma, via one of his internet dating profiles. It doesn’t take long before Emma joins Jack in fueling his power-hungry dream.
He is able to justify his despicable actions because in his mind, he is only doing harm to those that truly deserve it: bullies, sexual predators, murderers – how can it be wrong to punish the wicked? But the pull of the darkness is too great and soon enough, Jack is destroying the lives of anyone he feels has committed any infraction he deems worthy of condemnation. It is here, at his most toxic, that the first pangs of truth are felt. Is this who he is? Has he lost his way? Deep down, a flame of realization that he is not singular, but part of One Tribe, starts to flicker, but Jack is not ready to hear the call. He needs to avoid the painful reality of his situation, so he throws himself into the chaos.
Hardly anyone lives their daily life without their smart phone glued to their hand. Jack’s access is unprecedented, he begins to truly lose himself. The body count is rising, and one of his casualties could well be his relationship with Emma. Emma can no longer exist in Jack’s orbit, the cost is too great for her. No matter how hard she tries, she cannot reach the man she loves. It could be the end. In the aftermath of her revelation, Jack realizes what his actions have manifested. He has destroyed the only thing that has ever meant anything to him, and he will never love again. What is there for him now? It’s always darkest before the dawn. In the midst of utter devastation and exhaustion, Jack finally feels the power to change, to elevate himself.
As he allows the beautiful truth blossom within him, he is able to accept the fact that at his essence, he had become a self-saboteur, that the actual enemy of his enemy is himself. As the album comes to a close, Jack is at last moving towards the light he has fought so hard to avoid. He now moves to rebuild his life, and his love. The “One Tribe” phenomenon cannot be denied and Jack begins to take his place as part of the greater good.
